The Grand Hotel Costa Rica is operated by the hotel group Elite Hotels and Resorts of Costa Rica. It is the only hotel in San Jos├® declared by the government as a historical and architectural monument. Located in the heart of San Jos├®, surrounded by national museums, plazas and walking boulevards, the venue is within walking distance to the main cultural and tourist attractions. For many years, Costa Rica found itself with the absence of a first class hotel in the country. By November 22nd of 1928, the Constitutional Congress of the Republic of Costa Rica approved the law 34, which stated a contract signed on October 3rd of 1928, between the investor and future owner of the hotel, Dr. Luis Paulino Jim├®nez Ortiz and the then president Cleto Gonz├ílez V├¡quez for the construction of a world class hotel in the city. This law also provided fiscal benefits to the contractor for 20 years and to fully dispose of 2 apartments in the hotel to host foreign diplomats. In May 2016 a complete transformation began to revitalize this historical hotel with the latest room designs, sophisticated furnishing, premium services and the most advanced technology. An impressive lobby with a fully modern welcoming experience, as well as an executive lounge, meeting rooms and an innovative concept of a brand restaurant, which opened in July 2018. The hotel is affiliated through a franchise arrangement with Hilton Worldwide under the brand Hilton Curio Collection.
