Republic Square: the main and central square of Yerevan. The square was designed by architect Alexander Tamanian in 1924. The oval shaped square has a stone pattern in the center, meant to look like a traditional Armenian rug. The dancing and singing water fountains are located at the northeastern forehead of the square in front of the National Gallery. The Republic Square is the place where ceremonies and meetings are held with the most notable one is the yearly military show of the Independence Day. The Singing Fountains: From early spring to late autumn each evening there is a fountain and light show in front of the Art Gallery at the Republic square.
